Career Counseling

Career counseling and information about professional electives for students in the College of Pharmacy are available in the Office of Student Affairs (PHR. 5.112).

Although it is most important that students consult with a career counselor in the Office of Students Affairs about professional opportunities, students are strongly encouraged to seek additional information on professional electives and career opportunities from as many sources as possible in order to be well informed about the career choices that await them following graduation. Student professional organizations and fraternities, featured speakers at special College seminars, and faculty and practitioners who have pursued various career paths in pharmacy are an accessible and rich source of information and inspiration for students.

Professional pharmacy electives also offer students the opportunity to pursue potential areas of interest in pharmacy. Career counselors in the Office of Student Affairs as well as College faculty can be valuable resources in assisting students with elective and career choices.

In PHR 249, "Introduction to Pharmacy", all students will be provided information about career pathways in pharmacy. As a component of the course, students will complete an 18 hour shadowing experience in three pharmacy practice environments, the purpose of which is to expose students to pharmacy practice and career opportunities. Students will be asked to research pharmacy careers and make an initial choice of a career option in the form of a research paper.
