Fellowships in Clinical Sciences
  • Designed as an advanced training program in the clinical, basic, and translational sciences for those with a Pharm.D. degree and the clinical knowledge and skills commensurate with a specialty practice residency.

  • Typically two or more calendar years in duration. The time is divided between research (80% of effort) and advanced practice experiences (20%), as defined by the ACCP guidelines for Fellowship training.

  • Completion of this program prepares the trainee for tenure track academic and research scientist positions.

  • Engage in the discovery, dissemination and application of pharmaceutical and biomedical knowledge to improve the health status of society.

  • There is a large degree of flexibility in these programs, and each faculty who supervises a fellow assumes primary responsibility for the design and evaluation of the experience.

  • There are opportunities to take graduate coursework within The University of Texas and its affiliated institutions as a non-degree seeking student.

  • At the completion of the program receives a certificate attesting to the satisfactory completion of a Clinical Sciences Fellowship from The University of Texas.

The University of Texas College of Pharmacy has a distinguished record of research and scholarly productivity among its basic scientist and clinical faculty. Continuing exceptions of faculty contributions to the knowledge base upon which professional practice if founded are accompanied by a College commitment to the further expansion of the pharmacist's role in health care delivery. A part of this College of Pharmacy mission includes the education and training of young men and women who will be the clinical scientists and educators of the future.

The fellowship program in the clinical sciences is a minimum of two years in length. While fellows gain additional experience in the provision of pharmaceutical care services, the major focus is the acquisition of research skills in the area of interest. There are opportunities to take graduate coursework and to participate in clinical and laboratory investigations with experienced clinical and basic science faculty in Austin and San Antonio. Fellows participate in ongoing funded research as well as in the design and conduct of original research. Individuals who are interested in fellowship training should contact pharmacy faculty members with similar research interests. Opportunities are available in the areas of Infectious Disease and more.

Applicant requirements include the Pharm.D. degree and one to two years of residency training or equivalent practice experience. Fellows are appointed receive appointment with the University of Texas College of Pharmacy.
